Licensing and attribution

Status

YTS Control is proprietary commercial software maintained by ruffangeles. It is distributed as compiled binaries and installers, and it is sold under a one-time Personal licence.

The complete product is not open source, and nothing on this site should be read as an offer of source code. No source archive is published here, and the automatically generated “Source code” archives that appear on release pages are not part of the distribution.

That maintainer is one developer rather than a company, and the addresses published on this site go to that person. About the developer

The YTS Control Personal licence

There is one edition rather than a range of tiers. The Founding Edition price is US$49.99, paid once. After the Founding Edition closes the price is planned to be US$99.99; that is a plan rather than a commitment, and neither amount has been charged yet. There is no subscription, no renewal and no recurring charge.

A perpetual Personal licence lets you continue using eligible YTS Control 1.x versions without recurring payments.

Eligible versions means the 1.x series. Every 1.x update is included. A future major version such as YTS Control 2.0 may be offered as a paid upgrade rather than as a free one; no promise is made in either direction here.

Purchasing is not open yet. The terms above describe what the licence will be, so that they can be read before anything is for sale rather than afterwards.

Activation and the computers you use it on

One licence may be activated on up to 3 computers that you personally own. Activation grants permission to use the software under these terms. It does not transfer ownership of YTS Control, of the code it is built from, or of any intellectual property in it, all of which remain with ruffangeles.

Licence activation is part of the commercial release and is not implemented in the currently published application. What an activation request is expected to involve is set out in the privacy note, including what it does not need to send.

The trial

The public installer includes a 14-day full-feature trial, and the same installer serves both trial and licensed use. Purchasing does not provide a separate unlocked executable.

The trial is permission to evaluate YTS Control on your own network for that period. It does not grant any right to redistribute, resell, sublicense, repackage, mirror or host the installer, and it does not become a permanent licence when it expires.

What a licence does not grant

• Redistribution, resale, bundling or re-hosting of the installers or archives
• Access to the application’s source code
• Use on computers owned by someone else, including an employer
• Removal or alteration of the copyright, licence and attribution notices shipped with the software
• Entitlement to a future major version, if YTS Control 2.0 is released as a paid upgrade

Commercial, organisational and volume use

The Personal licence covers one individual using YTS Control on their own computers. Use by a company, institution, school, managed-service provider or any other organisation on equipment it owns requires separate terms, as does buying in volume.

Third-party components and notices

YTS Control is proprietary commercial software. Third-party components remain subject to their respective licence terms and notices included with the application distribution.

Selling YTS Control does not withdraw, replace or retract anybody else’s licence. Rights granted by a third-party licence stand on their own, no third-party code is placed under proprietary terms retrospectively, and nothing on this page claims ownership of code that belongs to someone else. What is proprietary is this product: the additions built on top, the branding, and the compiled distribution.

The notices travel with the software rather than being restated here, so that the text you rely on is the text actually shipped alongside the binaries you install. No separate public notices document is published yet, so none is linked from this page.

Npcap

Npcap is developed and distributed separately by its own authors under its own licence terms. YTS Control does not include or redistribute Npcap. On Windows you install it yourself, directly from its own website, and its licence governs that installation. Buying a Personal licence does not license Npcap to you.

Where builds are published

Installers and archives are published to the public releases repository. That repository exists for binary distribution; it is not a development repository, and it does not contain the application’s source.

It is not linked from this page while the commercial trial is being prepared, so that no link here can lead somewhere a visitor cannot reach. The downloads section states each platform’s current status.

Names and trademarks

Windows, Linux and macOS, and the names of any services referenced in the interface or in these pages, are the property of their respective owners. SelfishNet, EvilLimiter and NetCut are separate projects and products, named on this site only to describe the category of task YTS Control performs. No affiliation or endorsement is implied in either direction.

The complete terms will be published here before purchasing opens; until then, the notices shipped with each build are the authoritative text.
